Tech’s biggest winners in 2022

 

Every December at Engadget, between sips of spiked holiday beverages, we look back on the year and recall the best and worst developments in tech. Call us cynical, but in recent years, the list of losers gets longer, while we struggle to find true winners to write about. But in 2022, there were bright spots that brought light to a gloomy, chaotic 12 months. From beautifully simple word games to enchanting pictures from space, there were just enough distractions this year to balance out the neverending drama from Twitter, Meta, Amazon and the like. These are the Engadget team’s favorite things in 2022.

  Vespa’s move into NFTs shows the importance of using blockchain technology to improve customer experience and increase revenue Italian motor vehicle manufacturer Piaggio has applied with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to register the Vespa trademark into the metaverse and NFT space. Piaggio plans to offer virtual Vespas, NFT-authenticated digital objects, and software for creating, managing, shipping, and exchanging NFTs and collectible digital objects. Peter Crouch is concerned that Leicester City is having financial ‘issues’ after a quiet summer

  Peter Crouch has shared his concerns about Leicester City’s financial position after a quiet transfer window and believes ‘confidence is low’ at King Power after a difficult campaign. The Foxes lost several players over the summer when Kasper Schmeichel left the club to join Nice in Ligue 1 and the club also sold star defender Wesley Fofana to Chelsea for £70 million. Despite key players leaving the club, there was a distinct lack of good replacements as Alex Smithies and centre-back Wout Faes were the only two new players brought into the squad.
